Baby Music Class

A friend of mine teaches a baby music class, so we decided to take Fiona for a little bit of socialization and stimulation.  It was so fun, and Fiona was such a great student!  She was engaged, attentive and participated when she was able.  She was the youngest in the class, and I think she was interested to see the other babies walking and crawling around.  She's not too far from that.  She's beginning to roll, and even that makes me nervous; I can't imagine how paranoid I'll be when she can crawl!

She took the best nap ever after class and mama was able to get some things done. We love Baby Music Class!

Tree-Hugging

In a conversation with a couple of friends the other night I realized just how much my lifestyle can sometimes be the butt of many jokes.  For many years I’ve been called a “tree-hugger” or a “hippie” or an “environmentalist”.  Although I don’t consider any of these terms negative, I never consider myself any of them.  I just live my life the only way I know how, and that’s simply.  I like cooking whole, natural foods from scratch.  I like buying things from thrift stores.  I like not drinking water from plastic bottles and using linen napkins instead of paper.  I don’t mind doing a little extra laundry so that my baby girl can have cloth diapers, and I don’t mind the funny looks from my husband when I tell him the watermelon peels don’t go in the trash, they go in the compost.

It’s crazy to me that when I tell people that we do these things they think it’s just a waste of time or that I’m missing out on something.  Missing out on what?  Convenience?  Then why is it that I never feel inconvenienced?  The truth is I think it’s just the opposite.  I feel that making an effort to be aware of what resources I use and how I use them make me more mindful of my everyday choices.  I think it helps me realize that every choice I make has an impact, and that every decision can matter.  I live a life that feels full and meaningful because it doesn’t revolve around quantity or “convenience”, but quality and memorable experiences.

I recently came upon this website.  I find it so inspiring, and a good reminder that we can always do more.  This family is amazing.  If you don’t find it inspiring, hopefully you’ll at least find it interesting.

PS - The photo above is just a random photo from my birthday a couple years ago when Evan surprised me with a trip to Zion.  It was probably the best birthday ever.

Coming Soon...

Evan put together a record book for couples and started a company that is merging with Facebook to create a very exciting Facebook application.  Once it's all finished, you'll be able to customize your own book with your own photos.
It's been years in the making, and now it's all coming together just in time for Valentine's Day, and we can't wait until everything is finished and ready to be unleashed!
Everything is still being finalized and the website is still sort of under construction, but you'll be able to visit the website very soon!

I love animals

That being said, you should check out Heaven Can Wait Society.  I also occasionally write stories for their blog.  You can read one here.

The photo above is Lady, one of our 3 dogs.  She's a rescue, and I LOVE her!

Homemade Gifts

Homemade gifts are the best!
I'm trying to think of something good for Valentine's Day.
I made this for Evan for Christmas, and I enjoyed it so much.
On each card I wrote something I love about him.
It makes you really appreciate the little things about people that make you smile, and it reminds both of you why you love them so much.

Recycled Percussion

A good friend of ours was so nice to invite us to see Recycled Percussion Friday night.  It was SUCH a fun show.  And our friend, Holly got to go onstage for a little audience participation.  So funny!  You just can't go wrong with great entertainment and wonderful company while banging on pots and pans with drumsticks. It was a little scary to leave the baby girl for such a long time, but she did great without us.

In the New Year...

...I will
exercise patience
learn to let things go
rediscover spirituality
see the sunrise more often
explore my creativity
practice acceptance
learn a new skill
master it
love
love
love

The photo above is of a Las Vegas sunrise taken by Randy Kochis.  Lovely, no?

Happy New Year!

We had a wonderful new year!

New Year's Eve was spent at home with some good friends, and New Year's Day was spent relaxing at Lake Las Vegas.

It was the perfect day spent with family and friends, some mimosas, a little fetch with my sister's dog, and absolutely gorgeous weather.

2011 has been an unbelievable year.  Welcoming our little Fiona in August made this year the best yet...a little difficult at times, but definitely the best.

We're so blessed, and I'm thankful every day for all we have.
