Marina Del Rey

We love to visit Evan's dad in Marina Del Rey.  With the baby coming in a few weeks, we're trying to get in a few trips while we still can.  I can't wait until he or she is old enough to come enjoy the beach too!

This is right outside Gary's apartment.  He has such an amazing place!  We only got about 20 minutes of beach time in with Sonny before beach patrol gave us a warning that no dogs are allowed on any beaches in LA county.  Since when?  I feel like I see dogs everywhere in LA all the time.  Those people who don't pick up after their dogs are ruining it for the rest of us!  Crappy.

We drove to Long Beach and walked around.  There's a cute park with a pond where you can rent little pedal boats.  Evan and I pedaled, Jr steered and Sonny enjoyed the ride.

We went under the bridge to find out what all the commotion was on the other side, and found out there was a Crawfish Festival.  I don't really know what Spiderman bouncers, rap music and Mardi Gras booths (in July?) have to do with crawfish... but it looked like fun.

Coffee and snacks on the pier.

Also on the pier:  when pelicans attack.

Hope you're having as fun of a summer as we are!  :)

Super Summer Theater

Not enough locals know about this wonderful thing right outside of the city called Spring Mountain Ranch.     It's a tucked-away little area in Red Rock Canyon.  There's a ranch house, picnic areas and a grassy area with an outdoor theater.  A company called Super Summer Theater puts on 4 shows a year:  one each in June, July, August and September.  This is one of my favorite things to do every summer.  It's so nice to get away from the city, bring blankets and picnic under the stars while watching a great play.

The Main Ranch House

The Theater (from the restroom area)

The other day we went to see a great show called The Drowsy Chaperone.  It was the most entertaining show I've ever seen out there, and a really wonderful production.

If anyone is looking for something to do in Las Vegas, this is great for the whole family to get away from the city and away from the heat and enjoy some local community theater!

Evan's Birthday

Evan is always the BEST at making my birthday so special.  Our first year together he planned an elaborate surprise birthday party for me that was absolutely amazing, and just last year he took me on a surprise trip to Zion.

I always wish that I could make his special day just as memorable as he always makes mine, but I think I'm going to need a little practice.  I'm THE WORST at planning.  Seriously.  This is a girl who drove to Mexico on a whim during Spring Break with no money, no idea where I was going, and a reservation to a hotel I had no idea how to find.  Let's just say it did not end well.  Another Spring Break I spontaneously took a trip to San Francisco with a friend.  We did book a flight, and we might have had hotel arrangements for the first night.  But we pretty much hopped around the city with our crap for the next 6 days and stayed anywhere that had an open room that particular night.  7 nights in 6 different hotels, I think.  Anyway, back to the point..... Which is that I am a crappy planner.

Evan is the most wonderful husband and I think he deserves the best.  He works so hard to make his family - and pretty much everyone around him - happy.  And although I plan to one day be able to give him the biggest, most extravagant birthday surprise, he says all he wants is to spend it hanging out with family and close friends with the grill fired up and some drinks.  This is just one reason why I love him.

A morning "happy birthday, daddy" greeting from the doggies.
Even they think he's the best!

An adorable home-made card by Evan Jr.

Dinner at his favorite place - Yardhouse - with family and some close friends.

Then some of us went to Blue Martini for some drinks afterward.
(Don't worry, it was water and coffee for me)

It was great to have family together to celebrate Evan's day, I hope he knows just how special he is.

A Day at the Lake

Our good friend Mark was so nice to offer to take us out fishing yesterday on his boat.
It was such a gorgeous day, and we had an incredible time!
The fish didn't bite... at all.  But it was so fun just being out on such a beautiful day.  We swam, Evan did some wake-boarding, and Mark let Jr drive the boat for a bit.
He and his wife Amy are so great and such good friends.  It was so nice of him to take us out all day and show us a good time.

Maternity Photos

I am NOT a good picture-taker.  I'm always so jealous of those people who are super comfortable in front of the camera and can take great, relaxed photos.  I'm like Chandler Bing in front of the camera... FRIENDS, anyone?  Perfectly fine until it's time to take the picture, then I suddenly tense up and look like an alien if it were pretending to be human.

Will FRIENDS ever get old?  I think not.

Evan and I took maternity photos last week, though, and they didn't turn out too bad.  I think it's because the belly was like a comfort crutch that gave me something on which to place my awkward hands.  Here are some of my favorite photos:

All the photos were taken by Myron Hensel at the Wetlands Park here in Las Vegas.  It was a really fun experience (except towards the end when I realized we forgot our water in the car and I wanted to pass out).  I'm about 8 1/2 months in, and this baby will soon be out.  So far I've loved being pregnant, but I'm thinking it's the only time this will happen.  So I'm really glad we were able to document this time in our lives with some good pictures.

This week...

My 3 favorite things this week...

Coming home to these guys after being gone for the weekend.
I miss my little pumpkins even after just two days.
Seeing their excitement when I come home makes my day!

These cute shoes and Kate Spade bag that I found at Buffalo Exchange.
I love love love buying "gently used" things.

I'm obsessed with Lavender nail polish right now.
It's even better with gold designs.

Fourth of July Weekend

We went to California for Independence Day weekend with my sister and her boyfriend, Chad.
We spent most of the weekend with family and playing at the beach, and the weather was gorgeous!  Apparently it had rained all weekend in Vegas, so it was good to be away.
Evan's dad has an amazing place right on the beach in Marina Del Rey, which is only a couple-mile bike ride to Venice Beach.  So fun!!!
Chad, Jen and I took a wrong way, though and ended up going over 4 miles in the wrong direction before we realized it.  By the end of the day we had ridden about 13 miles on our beach cruisers - something I'm very proud of being 8 months pregnant!  It was a great ride and a good way to get in some much-needed exercise after all the big meals and snacks.
Aaah, California.  If it weren't so crowded and expensive to live there, I'm pretty sure it would be the perfect place.
